Learn the Quran

"Read in the name of your Lord who created, created man from a clinging substance. Read, and your Lord is the most Generous, who taught by the pen, taught man that which he knew not." (96:1-5)

Learning the Quran starts with reciting the words. Below is an opportunity to learn it based on the traditional method of oral transmission. All learning is free, but a sincere commitment is expected.

The Curriculum

The curriculum follows the time-honored tradition of learning the Quran through direct recitation with a teacher. The method remains consistent regardless of which portion you choose to study. The first step to learning the Quran is to recite the words correctly. Letters make up words, words are molds for meanings, and meanings are vessels for reflection; reflection is the goal of learning the Quran.

“˹This is˺ a blessed Book which We have revealed to you ˹O Prophet˺ so that they may reflect on its verses, and people of reason may be mindful.” (38:29)

This program is not time-bound but progresses according to each learner's capacity and pace. Everyone has different abilities and circumstances, so your journey depends on how you approach it.

Here are three ways to help you:

1. Focused study (main program)

You may choose to focus on any of the parts listed below. Additional sections of the Quran can be studied after these are completed. You can choose to recite from memory or read from the Book. You can also choose to study subsets of these parts.

  • Al-Fatiha - Everyone’s starting point

  • Juz 'Amma (30th part) - Recommended for beginners

  • Juz Tabarak (29th part)

  • Juz Qad Sami’a (28th part)

  • Surah Ya-Sin

  • Surah Al-Furqan

  • Surah Al-Kahf

  • Surah Aal Imran

  • Surah Al-Baqarah

2. Continuous Recitation (optional)

If you choose, you can attend a continuous recitation of the Quran, during which we cycle through the whole Book while taking turns. This meeting happens at a regular fixed time.

3. Supporting knowledge (complimentary)

Supporting disciplines will be discussed and studied as needed during recitation sessions:

  • Tajweed

  • Quranic Arabic

  • Sciences of the Quran

  • Tafsir, principles of Tafsir, and principles of Tadabbur (reflection)

  • And more

Based on demand and interest, classical texts on various disciplines related to the Quran will also be studied.

The Logistics

Focused study sessions are available by appointment:

  • Online Individual Sessions: Contact to arrange a time. These last around 20 minutes and are tailored directly to the individual.

  • Online Group Sessions: If multiple learners, friends, or families are interested, group sessions can be arranged. These would last 45 minutes to one hour, depending on attendance. Attendees would still be learning at their own pace or may decide to study the same thing.

The continuous recitation session will be scheduled based on interest.

"Indeed, those who recite the Book of Allah, establish prayer, and spend out of what We have provided them, secretly and publicly, expect a transaction that will never perish." (35:29)
